[Elizondo:2018] Somos Primos August 2012 153rd Online Issue http://www.somosprimos.com/sp2012/spaug12/spaug12.htm

http://www.somosprimos.com/sp2012/spaug12/spaug12.htm

Dear Primos and friends:

With so much concern about the economy, I have received lots of interesting tidbit and decided to bundle them into a new category, Tidbits on the Economy. The jewel in the collection is a graph prepared by Ron Arms, a family friend of over 50 years. A retired mathematician, Stanford graduate, my husband told Ron what I was looking for, and Ron prepared a graph and surprised me with it. You'll open to it.

Underneath the graph is the links to the categories, which are usually seen on the left side of the opening page.

Please note under Action Items, the opportunity of promoting public awareness of our history by supporting the effort of the National Parks Service (NPS).  In the same way that the African-American community has seen their history shared through parks and plaques in diverse places, we are now being offered the same chance to share.

Adrienne Castellon, in Washington with NPS suggests (1)  sending the name of the significant place, where it is located, and a few sentences about why it tells an important story to: American_Latino_Heritage@nps.gov  AND/OR (2) contact your State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to find out how you can nominate important places to the National Register of Historic Places. Find your SHPO at: http://www.ncshpo.org.  If each one of us would try to promote a historic site in our area, we could cover the entire US with recommendations.

Yesterday I received a call from Rodolfo Derbez Lozada of Mexico City concerning a family history conference being held in Mexico in September.  He also shared information about a marvelous series of interviews by Mexico's Channel 11. . Los que llegaron.  http://www.oncetv-ipn.net/losquellegaron/.   Each program is about 25 minutes long, and consists of interviews with people who have come to Mexico from all over the world, and some from Mexico who are now living in other countries.  Excellent quality, demonstrating Mexico's very diverse population, and world-wide mobility.

The last item in the issue is a Canadian video, showing a young man, dancing all over the world with different grounds and in different styles.  So, in spite of the economy, let's face the future with hope . . .  for our grandchildren, that things can, and will get better.

Do enjoy your summer with family and friends.
Cheerfully, Mimi
